About Sidney Hodges
After graduating James A. Garfield High School, Sidney's interest in airplanes led him to join the military. He served two years in the United States Navy. Sidney's duty was to act as a spotter on reconnoissance missions in Naval aircraft launched from aircraft carriers, searching for enemy activity in American waters. After receiving an honorable discharge, Sidney earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education on July 26, 1963 from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma. He also matriculated into a Graduate Art History program at SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, New York.
Eventually, Sidney made New York City his home where he became a courier for a messenger service. It was in New York City where Sidney developed a new passion for both photography and bicycles. Through his interest in bicycles, Sidney developed many of his life-long friends and new "family." Sidney returned to live in Seattle with his sister, Sheri, in 1999 after the deaths of their parents. He became active in Birds Flying Free Studio, where he once again picked up a paintbrush and produced numerous abstract expressionistic oil paintings. He also mentored many local artists. His life and joy live on in his artwork. |
